about this album
Yolk en Cuisine, five soloists gathered in a chamber music quintet without drums and playing acoustically. Their programme for year 2010 has been entirely composed by Daniel Casimir who has tried to work as a tightrope walker: writing music that can trigger various intentions of improvising while keeping an established identity. A contemporary jazz that contains a possibility of free improvisation and at the same time the use of many accompaniment systems. The point is to play a chamber music –and partly spontaneous- live experience, far from fashions and etiquette. It also creates an atypical relation between written music –that flirts with jazz, classical music, even contemporary- and improvisation. The choice of acoustic playing reinforces the very nature of the sound experience. The listener should sometimes have the impression of lovingly whispering voices, and at other moments he should feel the carnal quality and the physical strength of an ensemble fortissimo.
In other terms, Yolk en Cuisine is serving you with musical dish as exquisite and inventive as nouvelle cuisine…
