Chloé Lucas Violone, Viola da gamba

career

A double bassist from Montpellier, Chloé Lucas holds a Master's degree in historical double bass and violone from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris.

An eclectic musician, she performs in both small ensembles (consorts, chamber music) and larger ensembles specialising in historically informed repertoire.

An active member of flutist François Lazarevitch's ensemble Les Musiciens de Saint Julien, she also performs with Pygmalion (Raphaël Pichon), Correspondances (Sébastien Daucé), I Gemelli (Emiliano Gonzalez-Toro) and Le Poème Harmonique (Vincent Dumestre), Les Ambassadeurs - La Grande Écurie (Alexis Kossenko), Le Concert d'Astrée (Emmanuelle Haïm), Les Epopées (Stéphane Fuget), Ensemble Jupiter (Thomas Dunford), Le Concert de la Loge (Julien Chauvin) and occasionally with Gaétan Jarry's ensemble, Marguerite Louise.

She integrates the violone and tenor da viola into more contemporary music such as jazz and improvised music, notably in flutist Sylvaine Hélary's Orchestre Incandescent.

She co-founded the bass ensemble Cet Étrange Éclat, which won a prize at the Concours International de Musique Ancienne du Val de Loire in 2019, and released the CD "Sfumato" on Initiale label.
In July 2021, with the Castelkorn ensemble, she won the prestigious Romanus Weichlein Preis at the HIF Biber International Competition in Austria, and recorded the album Labyrinth Garden, which won an award from the magazin Diapason d'Or.

Chloé Lucas is a prize-winning musician with the Meyer Foundation, Mécénat Musical Société Générale and Adami.
